Medicare is similar to health insurance plans that cover individuals before retirement age, but this specific form of coverage was created for seniors age 65 and older. This federal health insurance program helps pay for costs associated with illnesses and injuries. Medicare is broken into different segments or parts.

Original Medicare consisted of two parts; Part A – the portion covering hospital related expenses, and Part B – the portion that covers medical service expenses. In general, a person is eligible for Part A if they or their spouse has worked ten years or more at a place that qualifies as Medicare covered employment.

If an individual is entitled to receive Social Security or the Railroad Retirement system, then Part A will be automatic and free of premiums. Unlike Part A, Part B is elective and requires payment of monthly premiums, the premiums are typically deducted from a person’s Social Security retirement benefit. If you are newly entering Medicare, please speak with a licensed agent as certain factors relating to Part B enrollment are time sensitive.

Medicare Part A pays for inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, and some home health care. For each benefit period and after the individual covers a deductible ($1,100 in 2010) Medicare pays all covered costs during the first 60 days and coinsurance amounts for hospital stays that last beyond 60 days and no more than 150 days.

For each benefit period you pay:
A total of $1,100 for a hospital stay of 1-60 days.
$275 per day for days 61-90 of a hospital stay.
$550 per day for days 91-150 of a hospital stay (Lifetime Reserve Days).
All costs for each day beyond 150 days

Skilled Nursing Facility Coinsurance pays $137.50 per day for days 21 through 100 each benefit period.

Medicare Part B covers Medicare eligible physician services, outpatient hospital services, certain home health services, and durable medical equipment. Part B has a $155.00 annual deductible. You will pay 20 percent of Medicare-approved amounts for services after you have met the $155.00 deductible.

What is Term Life Insurance? Term life insurance is life insurance that provides a policy holder or designated person coverage for a specified length of time or term with payments at a fixed rate. Rates for term life insurance vary greatly from one term life insurance company to the next dependant upon health history and other deciding factors. Coverage expires after that period with some plans offering conversion options that may or may not be subject to underwriting. The beneficiary will receive the death benefit only if the covered individual passes during the specified term. Term insurance offers the most protection at the least cost.

Term life insurance vs. whole life insurance. Whole life guarantees coverage at fixed premiums for the entire lifetime of the covered individual. Whole life usually builds cash value that can be borrowed against without going through a credit check or bank approval. Unlike term, beneficiaries receive the death benefit whenever the covered individual passes regardless of time frame. Many financial experts feel the best advice is to buy term life and invest the money saved between the two policy costs in a vehicle that offers a higher return.

Term insurance protection comes in many forms. Some of the more popular policies gaining ground in the market are; no medical exam term life insurance and return of premium term life insurance. Each of these policies may be right for a specific situation, however they will never be the cheapest form of term life that is fully underwritten. Return of premium term does exactly what it’s label suggests by returning all premiums paid for coverage during the life of the policy. It can be seen as a quasi savings account with the added protection of a life insurance death benefit. Again, there are much better ways to invest the difference in cost of r.o.p. term and standard level term.

first: Compare health insurance quotes
The major medical health insurance is the same cost no matter who you purchase it from. Compare quotes from health insurance providers that are sure to last through the reform era. A smaller company could fold and leave you vulnerable to a large unpaid claim. In Indiana Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana One, UnitedHealthOne, Aetna and Assurant are all companies worthy of comparison. IndianaOnlineInsurance.com represents all of these companies and can provide you quotes and comparison’s from all. It’s best to speak with an agent before you actually apply. They can give you a likely underwriting outcome and more precise quotes based on individual health conditions.

second: Consider raising your deductible
Price drives monthly premium costs. The higher your deductible the less you’ll pay in premiums. Hospitals will work a payment arrangement out with you for any major bill. A $5,000 dollar deductible may sound unattainable, but 3 years of monthly payments at $138 doesn’t. Do the math, run a quote with a $5,000 deductible and see how much money you would save each month. Some plans offer reducing deductibles that start high and reduce by 20% each year that you don’t meet your deductible. Plans like HSAs offer special benefits if you select a high deductible plan.

third: Consider an HSA
An HSA, or health savings account, is a high deductible plan that has a tax-sheltered, interest earning savings account linked to it for qualified medical expenses. The money in the account rolls over each year and will always be yours. In exchange for lower monthly premiums, the policy holder is responsible for more of the costs associated with minor events whereas a tradition copay plan might assume more of the out of pocket costs. In Indiana most HSA plans have a single family deductible that everything goes toward vs. a copay plan with multiple individual deductibles.

fourth: Look into separate plans
In any family, the factors that determine the premium costs are different. Not everyone’s health conditions, prescription drug use and physical fitness is the same. It may be possible to save money by employing a separate plan for one or more family members. Plans that cover maternity may be out of a young family’s price range. Indiana offers a plan for expectant mothers. Sometimes it’s wise put the mother-to-be on the Hoosier Healthwise plan and switch her back after the six week exam. Ask an agent for assistance, as more and more companies are dropping maternity coverage.

lastly: Consider forming a small group plan
Group health insurance is often less expensive than individual. A group plan can be formed with as few as two full time employees working under the same company. This is also a good alternative for people who normally would not qualify for individual underwriting health insurance plans due to the strict underwriting . Conversely, if you are on a group plan that is becoming to expensive, you need to compare rates from comparable companies. Group coverage is not always the cheapest form of coverage as not all employers cover the entire family. Some cover only the employees themselves.

Most people think of trips to the doctors office for severe colds or annual physicals when they think what they get for their Indiana health insurance costs. The price is so high for how little they use it, is also a common thought. But often times a person can save money by restructuring their plan and covering the minor events themselves. A $35 dollar office visit copay may sound like its saving you money, but what you are paying for that right is often far more than if you payed the entire network discounted rate on your own.

If you visit a doctor in your network, you can expect to pay 50 to 70 dollars after the network discount is applied. Not much different than the $35 copay, especially if you visit the doctor infrequently. Health insurance costs can be combated many ways without sacrificing coverage. Health savings accounts are very popular and can be a great money saving tool for many people buying Indiana health insurance from private companies. For more information and a HSA/Copay comparisonvisit IndianaOnlineInsurance.com

These plans incorporate a thinking that health insurance’s purpose is to protect you from catastrophe and get you back on the road to good health should something major occur. By implementing a large deductible and covering small issues out of pocket, a person can find significant savings by utilizing this style of plan, more than 6 million Americans are already using this form of coverage.

There are other ways to shave money off your monthly health insurance costs. Things like health fairs offer a wealth of money saving services. Child immunizations, high blood pressure tests, cholesterol tests and much more are available in nearly every community. Check your local hospitals website for a schedule of services and dates. Along those lines, many doctors can offer you samples of medication at no cost to you. They can also prescribe generic drugs when available, the majority of which can be filled at Walmart for $4.

Shopping for Indiana health insurance is an activity more and more Hoosiers are finding themselves involved with. With the cost increases experts say are coming, thanks to the health insurance reform bill and the rising cost of care, it’s more important than ever to understand how to get maximium value from an affordable Indiana health insurance plan.

You first need to decide which health insurance companies to consider purchasing a plan from. Smaller companies don’t stand as great a chance of weathering the reform era as companies like Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana One and United Health Care do.

Indiana health insurance should protect your assets from catastrophes like the costs incurred by major illnesses and injuries. All to often consumers looking for Indiana’s cheapest health insurance wind up with plans that limit benefit amounts as a trade off for lower monthly premiums. Some good advice to follow is to only consider plans with lifetime maximums in the millions and unlimited Rx benefits. Once you have weeded through and isolated these plans, you can then look at how the policies cover smaller events and choose the style you like. With these elements in place, you can then raise or lower your deductible to get the monthly premiums that fit your budget.

With a strategy in mind you can start comparing Indiana health insurance quotes. Currently Humana, United and Blue Cross Blue Shield are offering some of the most competitive rates, however they will all cover things differently. Some companies will provide better rates for certain conditions like high blood pressure and others may decline coverage for a condition or person entirely. Most internet quotes are estimates based on an assumption that everyone to be covered is in the preferred rate class and has not had a break in coverage greater than 63 days. The actual monthly premium isn’t determined until after an application has been submitted and processed by the company’s underwriters. Most people in search of cheap Indiana health insurance consider two types of plans; HSAs and copay plans.

Health savings accounts or HSAs are often a sound choose for those looking for ways to discount health insurance. They give the policy holder greater control of how and when qualified medical expenses are covered, not to mention giving a tax benefit as well. Most health savings account plans in Indiana have a single family deductible that all qualified expenses count toward and are structured to cover any expenses incurred after that. The major differences in these plans compared to a copay plan is that they cover less of the costs associated with events such as routine trips to the doctor for minor illnesses and injuries.

Most people who have had coverage from an employer at some point will be more accustomed to copay plans. These plans can help cover the costs derived from more minor and commonly occurring events. These plans work on the assumption that a family will experience an annual health care usage cost and incorporates these costs, along with other elements, into the monthly premiums. It can work well for those families that exceed the assumed average and may be less cost effective for those who don’t.

Consult an agent before you apply for Indiana health insurance. Their service they provide come at no additional cost to the consumer. Being denied coverage could leave a blemish on your record for years and could make it difficult to get private coverage in the future. A good independent agent will submit an anonymous pre-screen evaluation on your behalf to receive a likely underwriting decision thereby nearly eliminating the chance of anyone in your family being declined. They can also prepare a clear and accurate comparison for you with all the best Indiana health insurance plans represented.

If you are more hands on or only in the window shopping phase, remember that online quotes are estimates that assume all are in the best health class possible. Be sure you understand how each plan covers the basics like; wellness and injury/illness doctors office visits/ lab/x-rays, Rx limits & deductibles, coinsurance levels & maximum out of pocket expenses, and how hospitalizations/surgeries are covered.

A family on the same health insurance plan will experience almost double the original premium level after the end of the sixth year. Often after only a few years it may make sense to switch. Buying Indiana health insurance plans with the same or better coverage at a lesser costs is real a possibility, it’s just a matter of making sure your doctors and hospitals participate in their networks, having a thorough pre-screen evaluation and filling out the application.
